For Rob and BBQ, it was love at first taste. He was introduced to real southern barbecue on a business trip in the USA. He was hooked as soon as he had a taste of “brisket and ribs – food cooked on a real smoker.” When he got home, he started cooking. In 2012, he quit and turned his favourite past-time into a full-fledged career. Now, with the help of his TikTok community, he is becoming a sought-after BBQ consultant across the Prairies and beyond.
@prairiebbq“Southern BBQ culture in Canada has exploded over the last ten years and I get satisfaction sharing this food with people – not just cooking it and selling it to them, but training people and teaching classes.”

Rob started posting seriously on TikTok in 2021. He remembers thinking to himself: “this app is the next up-and-coming thing, I'm going to devote so much time on here. We're going to utilize this. We're going to entertain and educate people.”

“I’m getting invitations from more people outside of Saskatchewan to come do public events – I’m not sure those conversations would have happened [if not for TikTok].” TikTok has led Rob to new opportunities, like running a private consulting clinic for chefs. Consulting was never something he considered. “That just wasn’t on my business plan five years ago.”
